Hinen inverter and battery review - Updated October 1st 2025

The new Hinen 'all-in-one', inverter/battery/backup solution is coming soon.

Expected to land in Australia in November we might start installing these in 2026.
It's an interesting product with more going for it than many of the flood of budgets batteries hitting our wholesalers.

In a few ways it's quite like Sigenergy.
The saying goes, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".
I'll draw some comparisons to Sigenergy in this review.

Hinen 'A' series inverters
These sit on top of the battery BMS/backup box and up to 3 x 8kWh (usable) batteries.
5kW single phase inverters with 2 x MPPTs
10kW single phase inverters with 4 x MPPTs
10kW and 15kW three phase with 4 x MPPTs.

Hinen B8900M high voltage battery
8.9kWh battery but with 90% DOD that makes it 8kWh usable energy.
Single phase inverters can only have 2 batteries per stack and BMS.
Three batteries per stack with 3 phase inverters.
Up to 6 parallel stacks (each with a $1,000 BMS on top) are possible.
Fire extinguisher (aerosol) inside each battery as well as a decompression valve.
The batteries are series-connected which isn't my preference.

Hinen backup during a grid outage.
They claim whole house backup, 10ms switchover from grid loss, and a generator input port.
All built-in, no additional box or Gateway required.
Manual bypass switch built-in.
That's there in case the inverter fails so your house gets power from the grid.

Pricing
With no backup the Hinen is about 15% cheaper than Sigenergy.
With backup, it's about 20% cheaper.

Hinen warranty.
10 years on the inverter and battery.

Support
I rang the Hinen support number (02 7258 1272) and someone answered my technical questions.
They sounded like they were actually here in Australia too.
That's a good sign

My opinion.
This Hinen product looks better than many of the 'budget' brands flooding our market.
When I've got my hands on one, I'll update this to reflect what the build-quality is.
I like the battery safety features, the backup, the battery expandability.
The battery cost is quite low compared to Sigenergy.
This makes the price difference with Sigenergy greater the more storage you have.
4 x MPPTs on the 10kW and 15kW 3 phase inverters is great. Sigenergy only have 3.
I don't like the series-connected nature of the batteries but most are like that.
I also don't like the stack size. Only two batteries in a stack with single phase inverters.
Sigenergy can have six batteries in a stack for both single and three phase.

I'll update this page as I learn more.
We might quote, sell and install these, we might not.
For us it's all about risk not price.
Risk meaning...will they come and go, and leave us holding the warranty liability?
That's the concern we have with all of these new products.
We took a leap of faith with Sigenergy and it appears to have paid off.
However, there was a plethora of good information from Europe about Sigenergy already.
Not much out there about Hinen (or the other new brands, all budget-priced).
