FOXESS inverter and battery review - Updated October 10th 2025

After 6 months of research I have decided that FOXESS will be Solar4Ever's 'budget' inverter and battery brand.
In this review I will explain how I arrived at this decision.

I am sure FOXESS will take exception to me calling them a 'budget' brand.
Having spoken with their Melbourne team, they seem very proud of their products.
I have no other words for it though. It is quite simply, many thousands of dollars cheaper.

We shall continue with our high tech premium brands Sigenergy and iStore of course.
We will probably do a bit of Fronius and Sungrow as well.

I'm not entirely sure that we even needed a budget brand but there are SO many of them landing.
At least 50 so far. All trying to get a piece of the subsidy action.
Some will be rubbish, some will not sell enough and leave.
I think FOXESS will be a success (they are already in the top 10). Here's why.

The defining feature of any budget product is a lower price.
FOXESS aren't the cheapest but they aren't too far off either.

They are an end to end manufacturer...quite literally.

Their parent company is a UK-Chinese lithium miner (Tsingshan Industries).
Another subsidiary of this lithium miner is a lithium battery cell manufacturer called REPT.
FOXESS take those cells from their sister company REPT, and build their own batteries.
From raw lithium, to cells, to completed battery all under one company structure.

FOX have a Melbourne office. They have been there over three years.

I've spoken to them, both in sales and support.
They know their stuff.
I asked for installer training expecting a zoom session or me flying to Melbourne.
They flew two technicians to Perth a week after my request.

They are in the top 10 Australian battery brands.

Their latest EQ4800 battery was CEC approved in November 2024.
(EQ4800-L2, -L3, -L4, -L5, -L6, -L7, -L8 and -L9)
Each module is a 4.66kWh (usable) battery. (100 DOD).
The battery stack can take from 2 to 9 modules (9.32kWh to 41.94kWh)
The Master module sits on top and includes a BMS (battery management system).
The dimensions of a full '9 stack' are 1352mm high, 570mm wide, 380mm deep.
Therefore it is shorter and narrower than most, but sticks out about 120mm further.

It's a high-voltage, series-connected battery with no cabling to do between each module.
It contains none of the advanced features that are in Sigenergy and iStore batteries.
That's part of the reason that those brands cost thousands of dollars more.

A full stack of nine x 4.66kWh batteries costs about the same as a stack of four or five.
That's the power of the Federal Government battery subsidy in action.
I'd recommend going for the full stack even if there's no earthly way you will ever empty it.
More storage means the battery won't be drained so much each night.
That will extend it's life.

FOXXESS make their own inverters as well as their batteries.
Their 5kW and 6kW H1 (G2) models are standard 2 x MPPT products. Bit old fashioned looking.
I suspect there will be a new case for it soon to make it look a bit more modern.
You can connect up to 10kW of panels as long as you also buy the battery.
You can also install the inverter standalone although with battery subsidies in play, I'm not sure why anyone would.

The 10kW KH single phase inverter has 4 x MPPTs and can connect up to 20kW of panels with a battery.
It looks a bit sleeker than the 5kW model.
The three phase H3 models also look pretty good, and also support 200% oversizing of panels with a battery.
3x MPPTs on all of them from 5kW up to 15kW.

WiFi or Ethernet as standard and Version 2 of their app (Fox Cloud2.0) seems ok.
I'm told that FoxCloud3.0 is coming soon and is a big improvement.

There is absolutely nothing that is a standout 'wow' about either their inverters or batteries.
There's nothing that is a standout 'worry' either. All very normal.
Absence of obvious signs of risk is why I chose them over many many others at similar price points.

If you want 'wow' then talk to us about Sigenergy.
If you want a low price with all the important things included, then this is for you.

EV Chargers
FOXESS also make their own single and three phase smart EV chargers to compliment these inverters.
Just regular AC chargers but 'smart' because they can be set to charge only from available solar.
Would love to see FOXESS make a bi-directional fast DC charger like Sigenergy's at half their price.
That would shake things up, lol.

Do you think we should just call them FOX from now on?
The whole ESS on the end (Energy Storage System) seems superfluous.

Images
We haven't installed our first FOXESS yet so no 'real' Solar4Ever install imagery yet.
Won't be until January 2026 when we start installing these.
Here's a Facebook pic of a full 9 stack 41.94kWh battery.
I am assured that there is now a weatherproof cover to conceal/protect those cables.
Good... because it looks terrible like that.
